“Tuvaluan Community Gears Up to Celebrate 46 Years of Independence!”

The Tuvaluan community also known as Kirivalu community on Christmas Island has begun preparations for the celebration of the 46th anniversary of Tuvalu, which will take place this coming Friday. One of the island's councillors told Radio Kiribati News that this celebration is an annual tradition for all Tuvaluans and those connected to Tuvalu, honoring its independence, which is celebrated in Tuvalu itself. Tuvalu, formerly known as the Ellice Islands, was under British colonial rule alongside Kiribati. In 1974, the Ellice Islanders voted for separate British dependency status, leading to Tuvalu becoming fully independent within the Commonwealth on October 1, 1978. ..............
